Most managers start as clinical or clerical in the Homecare and Hospice industry. And a Great Clinician or Clerical employee may NOT be a Great Manager Identifying management potential in employees and developing their skills is an essential part of operating a successful organization Promoting deserving employees is cost-effective and helps to bridge the gap between upper management and clinical & clerical staff. Identifying employees and mentoring them through the process of developing their management skills is a skill in itself!
Objectives Know how to: Identify employees capable of advancement within the organization Foster new managers through the process of management training by mentoring Evaluate manager’s performance throughout the mentoring period- set a time period that may be as long as a year
Sharon Litwin is a founder and senior managing partner of 5 Star Consultants, a national consulting and education firm specializing in homecare services. She is an RN, with a Bachelor’s in Health Science and a Master’s in Health Administration, and is Coding Certified HCS-D. Sharon has been in the homecare and hospice industry for over twenty five years. Prior to founding 5 Star Consultants 9 years ago, she was executive director of the homecare and hospice services division for the Sisters of Mercy St Louis division. Sharon is also an ACHC surveyor, and a former CHAP surveyor, performing Medicare deemed surveys. In her consulting firm, she assists agencies in providing quality, meeting regulations and achieving financial viability. Sharon regularly speaks at national and state associations on topics such as case management, management training, Assessments and Diagnosis Coding, and various other topics integral to being successful in the homecare and hospice industry.
